The Hospice--domus
o The assistance activity

T he qualifying point of the hospice plan is constituted from the modalities of assistance to the sick and its families. From the quality of this assistance it depends the help that we can offer and the real reason of being of the palliative cures.
For the cure of these sick it's important a multidimensional vision of them that, particularly in these cases, cannot take back to a disease but to an existential condition of uneasiness that, although to ask for competent medical therapies and nursing cures, it require of an ability to welcome of the person on its totality, remembering the families and the friends.
To carry out this task, ambitious and demanding but indispensable, must be organize the assistance through a job as a team where the role of the operators are integrated to purpose " to wrap " the sick in a professionalism and humanity trap that it values the contribution of all and it listen to the subjective needs and it satisfy them, although the advanced disease, persecuting a better quality of life.
The assistance activity is based on some firm points that in part we have just enunciated but that it is useful to resume:

  • assumption in cure of sick and its family
  • creation of an atmosphere the most possible domestic
  • careful and punctual control of the symptoms, first of all the pain
  • particular attention to the diet and the problems to it correlated
  • establishment and maintenance of a real communication between operator, sick and family
  • concrete performance of the job of team family
  • good relationship between operator and patients
It's not possible to schematize the atmosphere that we try to create in hospice, of availability, satisfying the needs, ability to receive with understanding and measure the reactions exasperated of sick and of families that they pass through hard tests.
